The Stonic comes in a single five-door body style, offering a choice of two 1.0-litre petrol engines with a manual or automatic gearbox. The 99bhp 1.0 T-GDi will officially get you from 0-60mph in 10.7sec. The 118bhp 1.0 T-GDi is slightly quicker from 0-60mph in 10.4sec. Kia has given the larger of the two engines mild-hybrid technology to improve emissions and economy. There is a choice of four trim levels – 2, GT-Line, Connect and GT-Line S.

Performance and drive

Kia Stonic cars are easy to drive around town and quiet on a cruise. This is a car that feels agile, has enough grip, is relatively roll-free and with composure. The steering is good, and the gear change is light and slick.

Interior

The Stonic’s interior includes a sliding front centre armrest and a sensible positioning of all the buttons and switches on the dashboard. The entry-level Stonic 2 has an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus cruise control, air con, rear parking sensors and Forward Collision-Avoidance.
